ISAPS reported in June 2025 more than 17.4 million aesthetic surgeries and 20.5 million non-surgical procedures in 2024; eyelid surgery overtook liposuction as the most common surgery for the first time.
The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) publishes a yearly global survey of procedures performed by board-certified plastic surgeons. The 2024 results, presented in June 2025, total close to 38 million procedures, a 40% increase from 2020.
For the first time eyelid surgery was the most frequent (2.1 million), followed by liposuction, breast augmentation, scar revision and rhinoplasty. Among non-surgical procedures, botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid lead. The United States, Brazil and Japan top the total volume.
For the Dominican Republic, which receives international patients, the survey is the reference for understanding which procedures are growing and with what expectations patients arrive.
Demand is growing faster than verification. The more procedures are performed, the more it matters to check who performs them: a plastic surgeon with a state license, medical-college registration and society membership, in an accredited facility.
